Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing: partners who are paid only when they sell

An affiliate programme moves the risk. Partners promote at their own cost and are paid a commission only when a sale is confirmed.

What this service is

Affiliate marketing suits businesses with a product that can be explained and bought without a long negotiation. Someone with an audience recommends it, the sale is tracked to them, and they earn a share.

The hard parts are rarely technical. They are commercial: setting a commission your margin can carry, defining what counts as a valid sale, deciding how returns and refunds are handled, and recruiting partners whose audience actually matches your buyer.

I set up the structure and the rules, get tracking working properly, and put together the assets partners need so they can promote without inventing claims about your product.

Problems this solves

  • You want more sales without increasing upfront ad spend.
  • Partners promote inconsistently because they have no assets or guidance.
  • You cannot tell reliably which sale came from which partner.
  • Commission rates were set without checking whether margin supports them.
  • There are no rules, so partners make claims you would never approve.

Deliverables

What you get

The deliverables below are the standard scope. Anything outside it is quoted separately, in writing, before it starts.

  • Programme structure. Commission model, rates, cookie window, payout schedule and approval rules, checked against your margin.
  • Tracking setup. Affiliate platform or plugin configured, links tested, and sales attributed correctly.
  • Partner terms. Written rules covering allowed channels, claim restrictions, brand usage and what voids a commission.
  • Recruitment plan. Where to find partners whose audience matches your buyer, and the outreach message to use.
  • Promotional assets. Approved copy, creatives and product information so partners promote accurately.
  • Reporting. Sales by partner, commission owed, and which partners are worth investing more attention in.

Benefits

Why it is worth doing

Pay for outcomes

Commission is owed only after a confirmed sale, so acquisition cost stays predictable.

Borrowed audiences

Partners bring reach you would otherwise have to buy.

Compounding reach

Good partners keep promoting as long as the programme keeps paying.

Complements paid

Affiliate revenue does not stop when you pause your own ad campaigns.

Process

How the work runs

Four stages, with the commercial rules settled before any partner is approached.

01

Discover

Check margin, average order value, return rates and whether the product suits third-party promotion.

02

Plan

Set commission structure, terms, tracking method and the partner profile to target.

03

Execute

Configure tracking, publish terms, build the asset pack, begin recruitment.

04

Optimise

Support the partners who produce, remove those who break the rules, adjust rates as data arrives.

Fit

Who this suits

Best suited to products with repeatable pricing and enough margin to share.

Where it is not the answer

  • Services priced individually after a consultation — there is nothing clean to track.
  • Products with margins too thin to fund a commission.
  • Businesses unable to verify sales or handle partner payouts reliably.

If that describes your situation, say so in your first message and I will point you at the channel that fits instead.

FAQ

Affiliate marketing questions

It varies widely by category and margin. The right rate is one your margin can carry after refunds, not one copied from another industry. We work it out from your numbers.

For stores, an affiliate app or plugin on your existing platform is usually enough. Larger programmes may justify a dedicated network. I will recommend based on volume and budget.

Start with people already talking about your category and customers who already love the product. Cold outreach to large publishers works far better once you have a few active partners to point to.

Written terms plus an approved asset pack. Partners who break the rules lose commissions and access — and that has to be enforced, not just written down.
